Interest Group Guidelines

 

Winding River members and residents can form Interest Groups to share these activities with other members and residents who share those same interests. 

 

Forming an Interest Group   

1. A member or resident (the “sponsor”) interested in forming an Interest Group can measure community interest by sending a River Note to the community inviting interested members and residents to a meeting. The sponsor can reserve space at one of Winding River’s amenities at no charge to host this meeting.

 

1. Upon determining sufficient community interest, the sponsor completes and submits a request to Form a New Interest Group.

 

1. All Interest Groups are approved by the Board of Directors within 30 days. The sponsor will be notified of the Board’s decision by the Interest Group Administrator.

 

Interest Group Categories

Interest Groups fall into two categories:

1. General Interest Groups (GIG)

   1. Purpose: Sponsored by Winding River members or residents who desire to gather with like-minded members and residents for a specific activity, e.g., fitness activities, sports, games and hobbies.

   2. Membership: Open to ALL Winding River members and residents.

   3. Scheduling: Reservation requests by the Board of Directors and Committees take precedence over GIG reservation requests.

 

1. Charity-affiliated Interest Groups (CAIG)

   1. Purpose: Sponsored by Winding River members or residents to raise funds for an established nonprofit organization as defined under the U.S. Internal Revenue Code section 501(c)(3).

   2. Membership: Open to ALL Winding River members and residents.

   3. Scheduling: Reservation requests by the Board of Directors and Committees take precedence over CAIG reservation requests. Events held to raise funds are required to pay the standard amenity rental fee for each use. In no case can community amenities or common areas be used as part of a fundraising event without the express written consent of the Board of Directors.

 

Types of Interest Group Activities

For the purposes of reserving space at Winding River amenities, there are three different types of Interest Group activities:

 

1. Events   

   1. Noteworthy happenings or occurrences, such as holiday parties, neighborhood parties, concerts, and fundraisers (for CAIGs).

   2. The standard amenity rental fee will be waived for one (1) event each year for all GIGs, however, a standard cleaning fee will be charged, if applicable. Each additional event, whether at the same amenity or a different amenity, will be charged the standard amenity rental fee for each use.

   3. An occurrence of this type that uses only one or two rooms at the Property Oweners’ Clubhouse (POC) is an event for the purposes of (b) and counts towards the one (1) event each year for which rental fees are waived.

   4. No Interest Group shall profit from hosting events at Winding River amenities or on Winding River common area.

 

1. Meetings     

   1. Assemblies for a common purpose, such as lectures, card games and membership meetings.

   2. Meetings reserving POC space must have at least eight (8) attendees.   

 

1. Classes    

   1. Instructional programs open to ALL Winding River members and residents, such as tai-chi, yoga, line dancing, cricut machines and boating safety.

 

Should there be questions regarding which type a specific occurrence falls under, the Board of Directors, in consultation with the Interest Group Administrator, will be the final arbiter.

 

All events, meetings and classes held at Winding River amenities or on Winding River common areas must adhere to the Winding River amenities guidelines.
